Gyn Surgery
- Endometrial AblationAn excellent technique for stopping periods without a hysterectomy. There is no effect on the ovaries and, therefore, no need for hormone therapy. An ablation procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery, with patient's returning home the same day, and without the need for an abdominal or vaginal incision.

- Laparoscopic HysterectomyLaparoscopic assistance in the removal of the uterus allows for a shorter hospital stay and a quicker recovery than after an abdominal hysterectomy. Very small incisions are made in the abdomen and specialized instruments are used to perform the operation. This approach may be useful for individuals with history of endometriosis, fibroids or a need to evaluate the ovaries. Patients usually go home in one day after surgery and are able to resume normal activities within two weeks. For more information visit: http://www.acog.org/publicatio...
- Incontinence SurgeryLeakage of urine or problems having a bowel movement may require specialized surgery to correct these problems. Typically, loss of support to the rectum, bladder or uterus is the contributing factor. Pelvic support problems may be corrected by surgery. The type of support problem you have will determine whether surgery is done through the vagina or abdomen. Some of these procedures can be done as outpatient surgeries while others may be more involved requiring a short hospital stay. For more information visit: http://www.acog.org/publicatio...
- Endometriosis SurgeryEndometriosis may affect the organs and lining of the pelvis producing symptoms of pain, bleeding or potentially infertility. When medications or conservative therapy does not help to control these symptoms, surgery is often required. Minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic surgery are most commonly used to remove the affected areas while preserving the uterus, tubes and ovaries. Although many people feel better in just a few days, you may need to take it easy for two to four weeks. For more information visit: http://www.acog.org/publicatio...
- LaparoscopyCommonly used to examine female reproductive organs, Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed by inserting a specialized instrument called as laparoscope through very small incisions in the abdomen. The laparoscope has lenses to magnify body structures, a powerful light to illuminate them and a miniature video camera. The camera sends images of the inside of the body to a TV monitor in the operating room. Specialized surgical instruments can also be inserted through the laparoscope and through small incisions nearby to perform operations. For more information visit: http://www.acog.org/publicatio...
- D & C, HysteroscopyDilation and curettage (D&C) is an outpatient procedure used to diagnose or treat abnormal bleeding from the uterus. Dilation means to stretch the opening of the cervix to allow access to the uterine cavity. Curettage involves removing a sample of the lining of the uterus (endometrium) to be examined later. Much like a laparoscope, a hysteroscope is a telescope-like instrument used to visualize the internal cavity of the uterus which may help your doctor find the cause of abnormal bleeding. These procedures may be done to assess conditions such as polyps, fibroids or precancerous changes. Recovery time is typically short allowing for a quicker return to daily activities. For more information visit: http://www.acog.org/publicatio...
- HysterectomyA hysterectomy is a major surgery involving the removal of the uterus which may or may not involve the removal of the ovaries (oophorectomy). A hysterectomy may be done to treat conditions which affect the uterus and only considered if other treatment options have failed. These conditions may include fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain or cancer. The choice of hysterectomy performed (Abdominal, Vaginal or Laparoscopic assisted) depends on the effects of the condition, the reason for surgery and the patient. A short hospital stay of one to three days should be expected as well as limited activity once you are home for up to six weeks. Unless the ovaries are also removed, most women will not have hormone related effects from surgery and, therefore, not need to consider hormonal therapy.

use of color filters and biopsy of

- LEEPLEEP, the loop electrosurgical excision procedure, uses a radio frequency current to remove abnormal tissues of the cervix. It has an advantage over other techniques in that an intact tissue sample for analysis can be obtained. For more information visit: http://www.acog.org/publicatio...
- Infertility TestingA couple is said to be infertile if pregnancy
does not result after one year of normal
sexual activity without contraceptives. Infertility tests are done to help determine why a couple cannot become pregnant. The tests help determine whether the problem lies with the man's reproductive system, the woman's, or both. A variety of tests can be used, including physical examination, semen analysis, blood tests and other specialized procedures. For more information visit: http://www.acog.org/publicatio...
